Disney is currently reaping the whirlwind for picking a fight with Ron DeSantis.
The governor and other Republicans in the state yanked Disney’s special tax dispensation.
Now “woke” Disney has some explaining to do after this moment was included in an upcoming movie.
Ron DeSantis rankled the Left when he signed the Parental Rights in Education Bill into law.
The legislation simply prohibited public school employees from engaging in classroom discussions about sexual orientation and gender identity with students in K-3.
Nevertheless, the Left slandered it as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill.
Disney, which has parks in the Orlando area, initially stayed out of the issue.
But leftist activists within the company goaded weak-kneed Disney CEO Bob Chapek into an attempt to stop DeSantis from signing the bill.
The gambit didn’t work, and only enraged people who were sick of Disney’s wokeness.
Now Disney could have another culture fight on its hands after including a lesbian kiss in the upcoming kids animated feature Lightyear that had initially been cut.
The Daily Mail reported that “Disney has restored a gay kiss scene in its new movie Lightyear after a furious backlash from staff, as the firm continues to tussle with Florida over Governor Ron DeSantis’s so-called Don’t Say Gay bill. The kiss happens between Buzz Lightyear’s friend Alisha Hawthorne (Uzo Aduba) and another female character within the first 30 minutes of the film, which was shown to audiences at CinemaCon… They subsequently confirmed that the smooch had been restored.”
The addition of the kiss scene will not only revive concerns about wokeness overtaking Disney, but it will put the company in the crosshairs of China, which has strict anti-LGBT laws.
The latest Fantastic Beasts film had to remove dialogue that insinuated a gay relationship between two male character before being allowed to screen in China.
Warner Bros. explained their decision in the following statement:
“As a studio, we’re committed to safeguarding the integrity of every film we release, and that extends to circumstances that necessitate making nuanced cuts in order to respond sensitively to a variety of in-market factors… Our hope is to release our features worldwide as released by their creators but historically we have faced small edits made in local markets.”
It will be a bad look for Disney if it has to take out the kiss again in order to screen in China and other culturally restrictive countries.
But Disney is refusing to comment about what it will do in China.
“Representatives at Disney have declined to respond to multiple requests for comment from Fox News Digital regarding if the company will include a same-sex kiss in Pixar’s upcoming movie “Lightyear” for audiences in countries such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia where gay rights are not recognized,” Fox News reported.
It’s quite amazing how Hollywood will tapdance for other countries while imposing culture on Americans.
If Disney backs down to China, which they more than likely will, it will further expose the hypocrisy of the Hollywood Left.
