Minneapolis has been plagued by lawlessness since the death of George Floyd.
And city leaders led the charge to defund the police.
But what Minneapolis city leaders just asked their police chief will shock you into silence.
With the death of George Floyd came heart wrenching images of the city of Minneapolis burning.
Citing police brutality, members of Antifa and Black Lives Matter swarmed the city and wreaked havoc on citizens and the police.
Feeling emboldened by the anti-police rhetoric, Leftist on the city council voted to defund the Minneapolis police department and replace it with an alternative “community safety” model.
And now after months of criminal activity, the city council is changing its tone.
During a recent city council meeting this week with Minneapolis police chief Medaria Arradondo, city leaders started to ask the question, “Where are the police?”
According to the Minneapolis Public Radio, one councilman asked the police chief, “Residents are asking, ‘Where are the police?’ That is the only public safety option they have at the moment. MPD. They rely on MPD. And they are saying they are nowhere to be seen.”
Another councilman claimed that the police are being “defiant” in not wanting to arrest criminals and said “this is nothing new.”
But one council member was shocked by the berating of the police chief and stated, “What I am sort of flabbergasted by right now is colleagues, who a very short time ago were calling for abolition, are now suggesting we should be putting more resources and funding into MPD.”
You can’t make this stuff up.
After slashing the police department’s funds and forcing many officers to leave the force, the Minneapolis city council is now wondering why crime is skyrocketing in their city.
It’s shocking how fewer officers on the streets leads to more crime.
But unfortunately Leftists have defunded their police departments in cities across the nation believing that fewer officers on the streets will lower crime rates.
And now citizens are paying the price with crime running rampant in their neighborhoods.
