In the wake of the tragic shooting in Virginia Beach, the community is trying to come together for healing.
But not everyone sees a tragedy in the same way.
And Virginia Governor Ralph Northam just declared war on gun owners with this announcement.
Leftists like Virginia Governor Ralph Northam never want to let a crisis go to waste.
They try to make the most of the moment to ram through policies that otherwise wouldn’t have a chance.
And whenever tragedy strikes and a mass murderer uses a firearm to kill innocent people, the inevitable calls for gun control follow.
So when Northam held a press conference to call for a special session of the state legislature just days after the murders, gun owners knew what was coming next.
But what happened next blew expectations.
Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam called for a special session of the Virginia General Assembly to consider passing what he called “common sense” gun laws…
These are the laws Northam proposed:
— Universal background checks
— Child access prevention
— One gun a month limits
— Banning assault weapons, including bump stocks
— Requirement to report lost or stolen guns
— Allowing localities to ban guns from municipal buildings
— Red flag laws
“I will be asking for votes and laws, not thoughts and prayers,” Northam said at the conference.
A January news release from Northam’s office pitching a gun control package includes many of the ideas he proposed in Tuesday’s news conference, such as red flag laws and child access prevention.
“We must do more than give our thoughts and prayers. We must give Virginians the action they deserve,” Northam said.
The truth is, none of these policies would’ve prevented the murderer from killing his coworkers in Virginia Beach.
As Donald Trump’s Acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney pointed out on Meet the Press, “You have laws on the books that make murder illegal, and yet people still do it. Laws are not going to fix everything.”
The special session will convene shortly, and many law-abiding gun owners are nervous about what will happen.
