Matthew McConaughey got some eye-opening news about a potential gubernatorial run

Matthew McConaughey is fed up with the deep divide in this country.

He’s broken ranks from his colleagues in the industry and called out the radical Left.

And McConaughey got some eye-opening news about a potential gubernatorial run.

Academy Award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey said he’s considering a run for Governor of Texas.

One person who’s likely dismayed over the news is failed Senate candidate Francis “Beto” O’Rourke.

While McConaughey is in a dead heat with incumbent Governor Greg Abbott according to polling data, O’Rourke is behind by double digits.

The Dallas Morning News reports:

“Abbott, a two-term Republican, is favored by 39% of Texans of all political stripes, while McConaughey, who hasn’t picked a political party or even committed to running, draws backing from 38% . . . If O’Rourke tosses his bandanna in the ring, he starts out behind: While about two-thirds of Democrats support O’Rourke, 78% of the more numerous Republicans back Abbott. And Abbott’s edging O’Rourke among independents (35%-28%), for an overall lead of 45%-33% in their general-election showdown.”

Despite a massive push from the corporate-controlled press and Hollywood luminaries, O’Rourke still lost to Ted Cruz, who had been somewhat weakened because of his refusal to endorse Donald Trump at the 2016 Republican National Convention.

Cruz has since shored up Republican base support while O’Rourke’s supposedly rising star has faded.

As for McConaughey, he’s enjoying the middle of the road for now, but at some point, he will have to declare a lane.

Based on past statements about his Christian faith, support of gun rights, and frustration with the “illiberal Left” as he calls them, McConaughey would have a tough time in the Democrat Party.

The moderate Blue Dog caucus is nonexistent, and the party is being dragged to the fringes by the progressives who openly support socialism.

And if McConaughey runs as an Independent, he would likely pull more moderate votes from the Democrats than from the incumbent Abbott.

O’Rourke tried to make hay during the 2020 Democrat primary by staking out insane positions like tearing down the existing border wall with Mexico, and exclaiming that “hell yes” he wanted to confiscate AR-15s.

Democrats dream of flipping Texas blue, but they can’t do it with absurd positions like rifle confiscation.

It’s no wonder an actor with zero political experience is polling ahead of him.
