The pandemic disrupted film and television productions in a big way.
Leftist late-night host Jimmy Kimmel hosted television’s biggest award show virtually for the last two years.
But Jimmy Kimmel instantly regretted his “Pandemmys” jokes after he just heard this terrible news.
Jimmy Kimmel has hosted the Emmys multiple times.
In 2020 he coined the term “the Panndemmy’s” as the award show went virtual.
He kept up the routine for this year’s Emmys that were once again virtual.
But it ended with news few expected.
Sad news broke this week about a driving force behind an Emmy-winning series.
Marc Pilcher, the hair and makeup specialist who styled the Netflix’s hit period melodrama Bridgerton suddenly passed away from COVID-19.
As you’d expect for someone working in the entertainment industry, where Hollywood has made no bones about mandating the vaccine, Pilcher was double vaccinated.
Despite that he died at the age of 53.
“Marc Pilcher, the Emmy Award-winning hair and makeup designer for Bridgerton, has died of COVID-19, his agency Curtis Brown confirmed to Variety. He was 53 years old. The news comes just three weeks after the U.K.-based stylist — who was double vaccinated and had no underlying health conditions — picked up a Creative Emmy statuette in Los Angeles for his work on the Netflix series. Pilcher took and tested negative on multiple COVID-19 tests to make the trip across the Atlantic and back again for the ceremony. Not long after his return he took ill and his condition deteriorated over the weekend. He died on Sunday.”
It’s difficult to get accurate COVID data for a variety of reasons.
One of the statistical complications is that it’s unclear who is dying of COVID and who is dying with COVID.
Nevertheless, breakthrough COVID cases are now widely acknowledged even as deaths in those cases appear to be rare currently.
News of Pilcher’s passing is surely giving Hollywood pause.
So heartbroken by the loss of Marc Pilcher, the brilliant and visionary Hair and Makeup designer for Bridgerton Season One.

Bridgerton is set during the Regency-era of the early 19th century, so hair and makeup take on a particular importance in the series.
According to Netflix data, Bridgerton is the most watched series on the platform with 625 hours of viewing within the first 28 days of release.
The show also came under criticism for its salacious sex scenes that ended up on pornography sites.
Pilcher’s tragic death drives home the point that there is no way to perfectly defend against a novel coronavirus that has swept across the entire globe as variants arose by many estimates in part aided by the vaccine promised to stop the virus.
Some countries were so sold on the new vaccine technology that they thought COVID would be totally eradicated soon and enacted the insane so-called COVID Zero policies that were doomed for complete failure from the start.
