The fight over whether or not self-proclaimed supporters of abortion should be allowed to partake of communion has garnered national attention.
Catholics all over the world have weighed in on the issue.
And it looks like Catholic Bishops have begun taking a stand against politicians and their pro-abortion agenda.
Joe Cervantes is a State Senator from New Mexico and a supposed Catholic.
Well, it appears that Cervantes has come head to head with one of the Catholic Bishops who still believes in the sanctity of human life and the Catholic teachings.
On Saturday, Cervantes tweeted that he had been denied communion at his church over his pro-abortion vote.
“I was denied communion last night by the Catholic bishop here in Las Cruces and based on my political affiliation,” Cervantes tweeted.
The State Senator went on to tweet, “My new parish priest has indicated he will do the same after the last was runoff. Please pray for church authorities as Catholicism transitions under Pope Francis.”
Cervantes can try to play it off like this was a shock to him, but Christopher Velasquez, a spokesperson for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Las Cruces, set the record straight.
According to Velasquez, the church reached out to Cervantes to inform him about its stance against abortion, but the State Senator never responded.
Velasquez also called Cervantes out on his statement about it being because of his “political office.”
Cervantes was refused communion because he voted for pro-abortion legislation, not because of his “political office.”
“He had been contacted ahead of time and on multiple occasions, so it wasn’t a spur of the moment situation,” Velasquez added.
Since Joe Biden took office, the issue of whether or not pro-abortion politicians should be allowed to receive communion has become a hot-button issue.
Biden is a professing Catholic but has also voiced support for pro-abortion legislation in the past.
A priest in South Carolina denied Biden communion back in 2019.
Just last month, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops decided to draft a clarification on whether pro-abortion politicians should be denied communion.
However, the Vatican has warned the U.S. Bishops against politicizing communion, which isn’t surprising given the Pope’s continual swing to the Left.
Again, the Left is trying to reshape not just culture but also religion to fit what they believe is the ultimate truth.
To openly support abortion is a grave sin in the Catholic Church’s eyes and is a centuries-old teaching.
It is downright pompous of these Democrats to believe they are the ones who can change the Catholic church’s mind.
No one wants to be in their shoes when they have to answer for this one day.
