A 2020 hopeful was just called out for her anti-Christian bigotry by this fellow Democrat

Kamala Harris is gearing up for a presidential run in 2020.

Last summer she used her seat on the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee to smear Brett Kavanaugh and raise money for her campaign.

Now her despicable tactics are coming back to bite her and you’ll never guess who just called her out.

President Trump nominated Brian Buescher to the U.S. District Court in Nebraska.

Buescher is a devout Catholic and member of the charitable fraternal organization the Knights of Columbus.

During his hearings, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) attacked the Knights of Columbus for being an “all male society” and anti-abortion.

Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI) insisted Buescher resign his membership.

But one lone Hawaii Democrat Congresswoman, Tulsi Gabbard (HI), just called out them out for bashing Catholics.

Fox News reports:

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii, appeared to accuse fellow Democrats of stoking “religious bigotry” this week for their questioning of a Trump judicial pick’s Knights of Columbus membership.

“While I oppose the nomination of Brian Buescher to the U.S. District Court in Nebraska, I stand strongly against those who are fomenting religious bigotry, citing as disqualifiers Buescher’s Catholicism and his affiliation with the Knights of Columbus,” Gabbard said in an op-ed for The Hill on Tuesday.

Sens. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., and Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, raised concerns about lawyer Buescher’s membership in the Catholic organization as part of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s review of his nomination by President Trump to sit on the U.S. District Court in Nebraska.

To the Democrats, simply being a member of a Christian volunteer organization is enough of a reason to bar someone from a judicial appointment.

But this anti-Christian assault is nothing new.

Tom Perez, the Chairman of the Democratic Party, said at a liberal summit that Democrats need to “penetrate” the Christian church to sway voters from their pastor’s conservative political messages.

This is the same party that booed God at their own 2012 national convention.

Will Kamala Harris’ anti-Christian bigotry hurt her 2020 chances?

Or will the Democrats’ radical base reward her by handing her the Party’s presidential nomination?

Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

UPDATE: Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) has now said that she will throw her hat in the ring for the Democrat Party’s presidential nomination in 2020.

  2. I don’t get the opposition against males bonding with other males, Christians with other Christians. Actually, I don’t often hear Jews ask about joining the Knights of Columbus, or Christians inquiring at the Temple. WHY can’t white people and males of any race run for Miss Black America. If they can’t why are black people allowed to run for Miss America? If they Added the word White to Miss America, they would be chased out of every town in the US. Isn’t that a double (maybe triple standard?) If anyone of any sex can use the bathroom for any gender they feel like that day why can’t I use the women’s shower and changing room at the gym. If they keep allowing this transgender crap to be applied, there’s going to be a lot more trouble than you think

  3. Who are these no-name simpletons that think they are even the least bit qualified to be president. What a joke.

  4. Kamala Harris would be shocked if a person were denied holding office because they did NOT believe in God. But for KH is is perfectly fine to deny an office to a believer in God. KH needs to occupy herself with a non-govt job. I do not want what she’d do to America as president. My personal opinion is anyone who does not want God to be their personal advisor is cheating themselves in a huge way…and as a result, is cheating those they serve of the best possible governance. AND the key word is SERVE. They are there to serve America, serve me, serve you- NOT themselves.

  5. She is just one more to be added to the Democrat field to run for President. Each one of them believes that he/she is the most qualified. Never mind that half the country or more have never heard of some of them. And then there are those who will go to extremes to make sure they are recognized, even in the Dentist’s chair, Beto O’Rourke. God help us if any of them become President because it would lead to a sweep in Congress, and we would have to endure another corrupt President like Barack Obama. Our country is fast becoming one that I don’t recognize.

  6. Having been born and raised in California, I know first hand that there are plenty of kooks there. I have all but outlived most of my loved ones in the west. A plurality of the electorate of the state has seen fit to foolishly shake their fist in the face of the creator. They do so at their own peril. The land that they inhabit is consummate” shifting sands of scripture. The Lord your God is a jealous God.

  7. Anti-Christian, Racism, Lying, Antisemitism, misleading, deceiving, obfuscating, Provocateurs, prevaricators, perjurers, Communists, all Democrat résumé enhancements.

  8. The old Democrat Community/Alinsky Organizers, KKK, OWS, Antifa, Black Panthers, BLM, DNC, LGBTQ+ ,ISIS, etc., tactic of intimidation and hate on display. They never fail to maintain their image, do they?

  9. Absolutely agree she just like “all” Liberal politicians need to burn in hell and soon!Im tired of seeing these filthy pond scum win elections when i know for a fact there just isnt that many filthy Liberals to vote them into office! How many more times are we going to hear the lie that Hillary won the popular vote?Wth all the Illegals and DEMONcrats voting multiple times as well as Dead People voting “multiple” times and on top of all that all those Trash cans full of Mail in ballots that were meant for Trump and were “NEVER” counted i ask once again……who won the popular vote?I DEMAND the Government start checking every last election for Fraud!!!

  10. Christians better wake up and join hands against these evil politicians before it’s to late and we are thrown to the lions again, we are the only ones that don’t band together and vote as a block like others do.

  11. The Dem 2020 Clown Car is starting to take shape. The former Mayor of San Antonio joined the fray yesterday. The big question is will the DNC be able to winnow this disparate gaggle of moonbats to a workable number before they do major damage to each other? On the other hand, imagine the campaign material the RNC is going to have available to remind the electorate of just how vile and out of touch the Dems have become. #1 will be the ‘impeach the m’fer’ spewed by the Gaza Gal from Detroit.

  12. Harris, Sinono, and Feinstein are all anti-Christian bigots. They drink one another’s bath water and are irreparably self-impugned. No Christian should ever vote for them.

  13. They all need a history lesson: The president they all revere, John F. Kennedy, was a Catholic, so was Teddy Kennedy, Robert Kennedy and all the Kennedy family members who now serve in Congress. I’m sure they’re not the only people of the Catholic faith in Congress, it’s just ironic that their memories – or possibly their lack of schooling/history- keep them from making fools of themselves nationally!

  14. When all the dust settles it will be bernie or joe carrying the democrat banner. Neither of them will beat the great guy we have in the office of President now. President Trump is saving America; in case no one is noticing! These players like harris and beto won’t get 2% of the democratic vote in the primary. There isn’t a dumber person in congress than that harris woman(?)!

  15. Don’t forget all the ex-convicts who now were granted the right to vote by the Democrats. And who do you think they’re going to vote for? Hint: The party symbol likens their body part where their brains are kept, what little of it there is.

  16. true californians did not elect these idiots, they were elected by themselves using cheating and paid homeless, illegals and i suppose dead people and other assorted low life that will do anything for a few dollars, some cheap wine, or a meal. these poliyicos will cheat, lie and do whatever to take over. they got caught in some states but these slime have big money, which they have been amassing for years and won’y stop until we put strick voting regulations in force–and fast. that is why theyant open borders, santuary cities, etc. this scourge must be stopped!

  17. no, they love the money made from the abortions. they have no concern for the mental damage these abortions do to the parent, or to the fetus. it is just the mosy awful thing to gain income from the body parts of dead fetuses—makes me sick!

  18. It makes me wonder in complete amazement how the Dems got control of Congress. Are we completely stupid as a society?

  19. Harris is as phony as a $3.00 bill. I’m not attacking her because of her religion or lack of religion. She follows the political path. I live in this state and have watched her and listened to her speak. She will do or say what it takes to get elected and she is shooting for the Presidency. She has one thing she cares about—herself. Not country, not the Constitution, just her self image. Typical Ca. Democrat. Only worse than many.

  20. I agree with this women is a viper a sneaky one at that just like the rest of them when it comes to belonging to groups clubs and cults the so called Elite Dems and the Hollywood haters all belong to the IDIOTS R US club thier lies are a part of thier everyday life its so sad that thier corruption goes unpunished it if some nut job in Hollywood would have held up the severed head of Obama she wouldnt be in jail she would be under it and basicaly thats where the whole damn bunch belong enough is enough and thats where we have a common bond with the black and white communities were all sick and tired of the bs. I put a lot of faith in Trey Gowdy as well but he said he was tired of politics but and theres that word but he would consider returning if his friend runs for President and his friend ask him to.Thousands of Americans ask Gowdy to stay i guess our President and the American people and bringing Hillary to justice was just not as important as his one friend and you dont know how it pains me to say that i thought he was good for America and that our President had an advocate and friend in Trey Gowdy guess i was wrong God Bless you all have a wonderfull Sunday

  21. I’m in total agreement. We need to pray to our Lord & Savior and then vote. We need to stand for this nation or we’ll watch our world end. As a nation we are not mentioned in the Bible. God help us, please.

  22. Kamala Harris is one EGOTISTICAL, SELF CENTERED smartass. I watched her questioning of Cavannaugh as well as other leaders in NSA, TSA etc., etc, and she got smart with everyone of them like she really knows a damn thing about their jobs. If Sen. Majority Leader McConnell follows through by reducing the number of members and the Sen. Judiciary Cmte., she will be off the cmte. NO GREAT LOSS!

  23. It wasn’t that long ago that pro-lifers were discriminated against on the basis of their religious identity. UC Berkeley law professor John T. Noonan, Jr., a Catholic, describes the discrimination pro-lifers faced from fellow Christians as well as from mainstream secular American society in his 1979 book, A Private Choice: Abortion in America in the Seventies.

In her essay “Life and Peace,” Juli Loesch wrote that when she spoke out against abortion at an antinuclear gathering, she:

“…tried to present a meticulous *secular* case against abortion. I marshalled all the scientific evidence… I followed it up with the most basic principle found in every human ethical system… do not do to others what you would not like done to you.

“This was rewarded by a brief silence, which was broken by a single question:

‘Are you a Catholic?… Well, then. You’re imposing your religious beliefs…’

“And, therefore, I suppose, I lose.”

Pro-life literature similarly relates that in the late 1970s, Bill Moyer, a Christian minister, who after Walter Cronkite is perhaps the most trusted name in television journalism, was doing a special on abortion for Public Television. He spoke about a shrill minority trying to impose their views on the rest of our pluralistic society — a secular democracy. Behind him loomed a statue of Jesus and a Catholic church, but it could just as easily have been a born again church or a fundamentalist church.

In 1986, on USENET, John Morrow, a student at Rutgers University, was making secular arguments on behalf of the unborn, like, “Would you kill someone in a coma if you knew within nine months he or she would be awake?”

When it was revealed that John Morrow was a *Christian*, Russ Cage, one of John’s most visible pro-choice opponents on USENET said, “The truth is out! John is a Christian!” as if John Morrow’s religious identity somehow discredited his views.

In the late 1980s, on the police drama Cagney & Lacey, the character of Christine Cagney (played by actress Sharon Gless) expresses her opposition to abortion as a Catholic. At the end of the episode, the police detectives discover a woman that died from self-abortion, and Christine Cagney realizes whatever one’s own personal religious beliefs might be, abortion must be kept legal at all costs, because without access to safe, legal abortion, women die.

(Whether legal or illegal, the unborn children always die in abortion.)

The abortion issue was repeatedly framed NOT as a secular and nonsectarian civil rights issue — the possible rights of the unborn — which applies to all of mankind — including atheists and agnostics — but dismissed as someone’s “religious belief.”

Now that pro-lifers in the United States have some political power, they’re dismissing animal rights as someone else’s “religious belief.”

In past decades, abortion was dismissed by liberals in particular as a “Catholic” issue, a “conservative Christian” issue, etc. Now that pro-lifers have some political power, they’re dismissing animal rights as a “Jewish” issue. Same bigotry. Different religious label.

Animal rights are a nonsectarian civil rights issue that applies to all of mankind — including atheists and agnostics. Pro-lifers are intellectually dishonest when they frame the issue of animal rights as someone else’s “religious belief” which they think doesn’t apply to them… they fail to realize many people see opposition to abortion as someone else’s “religious belief,” too!

Juli Loesch in her essay from the ’70s, “Life and Peace” made a secular case against abortion at an antinuclear gathering, and rather than respond to her argument, they focused solely on her religious identity, as if to discredit her.

Similarly, I can cite data from John Robbins, Jeremy Rifkin, PETA, the Worldwatch Institute, etc. but rather than respond to the facts and figures being presented, I’m questioned about my religious identity: do we “work” for our salvation, do we worship in churches or temples, do we refer to sinners as “dogs” or with half a dozen different animal words, etc.?

Animal rights should not be solely aligned with a particular political party. Neither should they be tied to a particular religion.

As I told Dr. Richard Schwartz (author, Judaism and Vegetarianism) via email in 1997: arguing as some Christians do that animal rights and vegetarianism are solely “Jewish” concerns is like saying, “It’s only wrong to own a slave if you’re a Quaker.”

No. Suffering and injustice concern us all. Like the abolition of slavery or the emancipation of women, animal rights and vegetarianism are moral absolutes and apply to everyone, including atheists and agnostics.

Richard agreed with me that churches should have animal issues at the top of their agenda as well.

Adolf Hitler thought Albert Einstein’s scientific discoveries were mere “Jewish science” and thus not applicable to gentiles. This is the mentality of meat-eating Christians towards vegetarianism, which they regard as a sectarian (like circumcision) dietary restriction (like “keeping kosher”), rather than as a universal ethic for all mankind (like abstaining from cannibalism).

Meat-eating Christians relegating animal rights and vegetarianism solely to Judaism are thus as bigoted as Hitler.

The sad irony here is a lot of liberals see abortion as sectarian, too! They dismiss it as a “Catholic issue” or a fundamentalist Christian issue or say if you’re not born again, you don’t have to be pro-life.

If vegetarianism were solely about “fit” or following a peculiar set of “dietary laws” why would pro-lifers be offended by pro-choice vegetarians and vegans?

They’re offended because THEY KNOW vegetarianism involves the animals’ right to life, and thus these pro-choicers appear to value animal life over human life under some circumstances.

And issues like animal experimentation, circuses, and fur have nothing to do with diet, eating, nor food, but DO involve the animals’ right to life.

Sometimes being lighthearted gets the point across to Christians that vegetarianism is not about “dietary laws” but about the animals’ right to life, like Steve Martin in the ’70s asking, “How many polyesters did you have to kill to make that suit?”

Leonardo Da Vinci, Count Leo Tolstoy, Mohandas Gandhi, George Bernard Shaw, Percy Shelley, Susan B. Anthony, etc. were all vegetarian, and none of them were Jewish.

At the end of 2007, shortly before moving to Israel, Pete Cohon of Veggie Jews in San Francisco said to me, “PETA’s not Jewish.”

When I told Jim Frey of Berkeley Pro-Life that animal issues are secular and nonsectarian and thus applicable to *everyone* including atheists and agnostics, he said, “Well, just like with abortion.”

Pro-lifers must not play a sectarian game with animal activists. Saying, ” *Your* religion says it’s wrong to kill animals, mine doesn’t…” is pointless when someone from a differing denomination could just as easily say, “Your religion says it’s wrong to kill the unborn, mine doesn’t.” There are pro-choice Protestant denominations, like the United Church of Christ.

As an animal advocate and a secularist, I’ve never understood the attempts of pro-life Christians to unsuccessfully deflect the issues of animal rights and vegetarianism by depicting them solely as someone else’s “religious belief” which they think doesn’t apply to them.

A lot of people look at abortion that way, too, you know!

Claiming, “Your religion says it’s wrong to kill animals — mine doesn’t…” is pointless when someone from another denomination could just as easily say, “Your religion says it’s wrong to kill the unborn — mine doesn’t…”

On the other hand, perhaps pro-life Christians *do* see the abortion issue as sectarian.

My friend Ruth once told me when she was doing sidewalk counseling outside an abortion clinic with a couple of other Christians, these Christians were saying to her:

“We only want to prevent *Christian* women from having abortions…”

“I guess that leaves me to minister to the pagan!” said Ruth lightheartedly.

  24. This ghetto pig should be in the welfare line, not in the senate; if it got the nomination in 2020, Mr Trump could play golf through the entire campaign and still win by a landslide!

  25. Statistically there has to be a few Dumbascraps around the country who act like adults but they’re so far outnumbered they’re also statistically zero. Harris isn’t one of those BTW. She’s the typical garbage that demonstrates how trashy the party has become.

  26. Only those that vote for them. They’re the ones who want amnesty for illegal aliens, who resist anything Republicans propose. I don’t understand WHY they don’t want a better economy, a wall, fence, or any protection on the border. Granting amnesty to those who don’t respect our laws to begin with, is INSANITY. Reagan granted amnesty to about 3 million in the 80’s, and now we 3-4 times as many, but we DON’T really have any idea how many. The wall won’t stop all, as many come here as visitors or visas, and simply stay, but that’s not as great as those who simply walk across the border.

  27. You are so so right Mike . It all has to stop. The voter fraud is a tool which the demoRATS have perfected and using the race card as leverage. I have to show my i.d. every where I go even for things so very minor. YES that is what we must accomplish.

  28. I reply to any website that cites Harris as a presidential candidate. She is ineligible because, born in 1964 (and on US soil) she was born of parents, BOTH of which are/were not citizens at time of Harris’ birth. Harris’ mother, an Asian-Indian, and her father, a Jamaican, were NOT US citizens at time of Harris’ birth, making her ineligible fpr President! Let’s not pull another “Obama”, again….

  29. Anytime the freedom of practicing your chosen religion’s infringed upon, ridiculed or taken away (this includes, but isn’t limited to, guns…) it’s time to take the necessary steps to remove that person (people) from office or cut short their campaigning for office, as this renders them unfit for ANY office. Even if we don’t agree with other people’s religious choices, & I don’t, we should still have the freedom to choose. No one has the right to ridicule anyone else, for anything, as that right hasn’t been given to us by Creator God Almighty – therefore, we do NOT have the authority to do this. Also, I won’t condemn Harris or anyone else – we are to pray for our enemies – Jesus was tortured & murdered for them as much as for any of us; God tells us when we do this, we ‘heap coals on their heads’ meaning should they continue on their current course, in their current sin, their accountability to God increases. Only God (& later, His saints) are/will be qualified to judge & pass sentence on them. We certainly fight for what ALL humans KNOW is right AND do our utmost to prevent them from turning right into wrong – which is EXACTLY what they’ve done & continue to do. This doesn’t mean they shouldn’t pay the consequences for their words & actions – they absolutely should – they MUST. You also have to understand what agenda they’re following & promoting & WHO their god is; when you do this, you have the understanding of why they do & say what they do & say. Look at their associations, affiliations & with whom they surround themselves. It’s a huge tell.

  30. “During his hearings, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) attacked the Knights of Columbus for being an “all male society” and anti-abortion.” Well Kamala you could transgender and you could join the Knights. You would not fit in though on their abortion stand.

  31. I agree the AG should check ALL poling places. Why don’t you and many other stop slinging hatred and suggestions to have honest elections for ALL US Citizens. But it is the Republican party in about 33 states that have redistricted and gerrymandering to sway elections. The problems that the US had in 2016 and 2018 elections can be fixed. For starters EVERY US Citizen Must have a valid picture ID to vote.

  32. No black women will become president in the next 20 years or more. No black women will become a VP in the next 20 years. The racism level in the US is too high. Biden and a White female for VP should be the DEM candidates.

  33. I use to be a proud Californian. Now I’m just a Californian living deep behind enemy lines. I will fight from within against Harris, Feinstein and any other anti American idiot worming their way into power like the Clintons and obamas did.

  34. The ancient eastern reincarnationist religions Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism all predate Christianity, all teach ahimsa, or nonviolence towards humans and animals alike to the point of vegetarianism, all are vegan-friendly, all oppose abortion, and all teach that abortion and war are the karma for killing animals, and that therefore, we cannot end abortion nor have peace on earth until first we abolish the killing of animals.

“The vegetarian movement,” wrote Count Leo Tolstoy, “ought to fill with gladness the souls of all those who have at their heart the realization of God’s kingdom on earth.”

Vegetarianism is at the heart of Christianity. Jesus insisted upon the moral standards given by God in the beginning (Matthew 5:31-32, 19:3-9; Mark 10:2-12; Luke 16:18), and this did not go unnoticed by the early church fathers.

St. Basil (AD 320-79) taught, “The steam of meat darkens the light of the spirit. One can hardly have virtue if one enjoys meat meals and feasts… In the earthly paradise, there was no wine, no one sacrificed animals, and no one ate meat. Wine was only invented after the Deluge… With simple living, well being increases in the household, animals are in safety, there is no shedding of blood, nor putting animals to death. The knife of the cook is needless, for the table is spread only with the fruits that nature gives, and with them they are content.”

“Holy people are most loving and gentle in their dealings with their fellows, and even with the lower animals: for this reason it was said that ‘A righteous man is merciful to the life of his beast,’” explained St. John Chrysostom (AD 347-407). “Surely we ought to show kindness and gentleness to animals for many reasons and chiefly because they are of the same origin as ourselves.”

Writing about the Christian saints and ascetics, Chrysostom said: “No streams of blood are among them; no butchering and cutting of flesh… With their repast of fruits and vegetables even angels from heaven, as they behold it, are delighted and pleased.”

Chrysostom considered flesh-eating a cruel and unnatural habit for Christians: “We imitate the ways of wolves, the ways of leopards, or rather we are worse than these. For nature has assigned that they should be thus fed, but us God hath honored with speech and a sense of equity, yet we are worse than the wild beasts.”

In a homily on Matthew 22:1-4, Chrysostom taught: “We the Christian leaders practice abstinence from the flesh of animals to subdue our bodies… the unnatural eating of flesh-meat is of demonical origin… the eating of flesh is polluting.” He added that “flesh-meats and wine serve as materials for sensuality, and are a source of danger, sorrow, and disease.” And St. John Chrysostom recommended the “prayerful invocation of the name of God,” which he said should be “uninterrupted.” (I Thessalonians 5:17)

In the (updated) 1986 edition of A Vegetarian Sourcebook, Keith Akers similarly observes: “But many others, both orthodox and heterodox, testified to the vegetarian origins of Christianity. Both Athanasius and his opponent Arius were strict vegetarians. Many early church fathers were vegetarian, including Clement of Alexandria, Tertullian, Heironymus, Boniface, and John Chrysostom.

“Many of the monasteries both in ancient times and at the present day practiced vegetarianism… The requirement to be vegetarian has been diluted considerably since the earliest days, but the practice of vegetarianism was continued by many saints, monks, and laymen. Vegetarianism is at the heart of Christianity.”

    According to Father Ambrose Agius:

“Many of the saints understood God’s creatures, and together they shared the pattern of obedience to law and praise of God that still leaves us wondering. The quickest way to understand is surely to bring our own lives as closely as possible into line with the intention of the Giver of all life, animate and inanimate.”

The Reverend Alvin Hart, an Episcopal priest in New York, says:

“Many Georgian saints were distinguished by their love for animals. St. John Zedazneli made friends with bears near his hermitage; St. Shio befriended a wolf; St. David of Garesja protected deer and birds from hunters, proclaiming, ‘He whom I believe in and worship looks after and feds all these creatures, to whom He has given birth.’ Early Celtic saints, too, favored compassion for animals. Saints Wales, Cornwall and Brittany of Ireland in the 5th and 6th centuries AD went to great pains for their animal friends, healing them and praying for them as well.”

St. Benedict, who founded the Benedictine Order in AD 529, permitted meat only in times of sickness, and made vegetarian foods the staple for his monks, teaching, “Nothing is more contrary to the Christian spirit than gluttony.” The Rule of St. Benedict itself is a composite of ascetic teachings from previous traditions, such as St. Anthony’s monasticism in Egypt, which called for abstinence from meat and wine.

According to E. Eyre-Smith, in an article from The Ark (a bulletin published by the Catholic Study Circle for Animal Welfare), “Montalembert’s Monks of the West records in Vita Columbani, the Chronicler Jonas, writing within 25 years of the death of St. Columba, relates that this saint spent long periods in solitary contemplation and communion with the wild creatures of the forest, and insisted on his monks living, like himself, on the fruits of the earth, herbs and pulses. This indicates that in making rules for his followers in regard to non-meat eating, he was moved by his love and regard for the rest of God’s creation.”

Boniface (672-754) wrote to Pope Zacharias that he had begun a monastery which followed the rules of strict abstinence, whose monks do not eat meat nor enjoy wine or other intoxicating drinks. St. Andrew lived on herbs, olives, oil and bread. He lived to be 105.

A contemporary Benedictine monk, Brother David Steindl-Rast points out that the lives of the saints teach compassion towards all living beings. “Unfortunately,” says Brother David, “Christians have their share of the exploitation of our environment and in the mistreatment of animals. Sometimes they have even tried to justify their crimes by texts from the Bible, misquoted out of context. But the genuine flavor of a tradition can best be discerned in its saints…

“All kinds of animals appear in Christian art to distinguish one saint from another. St. Menas has two camels; St. Ulrich has a rat; St. Brigid has ducks and geese; St. Benedict, a raven; the list goes on and on. St. Hubert’s attribute is a stag with a crucifix between its antlers. According to legend, this saint was a hunter but gave up his violent ways when he suddenly saw Christ in a stag he was about to shoot… Christ himself is called the Lamb of God.”

According to Brother David, “…the survival of our planet depends on our sense of belonging–to all other humans, to dolphins caught in dragnets, to pigs and chickens and calves raised in animal concentration camps, to redwoods and rainforests, to kelp beds in our oceans, and to the ozone layer.”

The International Network for Religion and Animals was founded in 1985. Since then, numerous books have been written on animals and theology, including:

The Vegetarianism of Jesus Christ: the Pacifism, Communalism and Vegetarianism of Primitive Christianity; Food for the Spirit: Vegetarianism and the World Religions; The Souls of Animals; Replenish the Earth; Of God and Pelicans; Is God A Vegetarian?; God’s Covenant with Animals; They Shall not Hurt or Destroy; The Lost Religion of Jesus; Good News for All Creation; Vegetarian Christian Saints; The Dominion of Love; Good Eating; Of God and Dogs; Every Creature a Word of God; School of Compassion; For Love of Animals, etc.

Reverend Marc Wessels of the International Network for Religion and Animals (INRA) writes: “The most important teaching which Jesus shared was the need for people to love God with their whole self and to love their neighbor as they loved themselves. Jesus expanded the concept of neighbor to include those who were normally excluded, and it is therefore not too farfetched for us to consider the animals as our neighbors.

“To think about animals as our brothers and sisters is not a new or radical idea. By extending the idea of neighbor, the love of neighbor includes love of, compassion for, and advocacy of animals. There are many historical examples of Christians who thought along those lines, besides the familiar illustration of St. Francis. An abbreviated listing of some of those individuals worthy of study and emulation includes Saint Blaise, Saint Comgall, Saint Cuthbert, Saint Gerasimus, Saint Giles, and Saint Jerome, to name but a few.”

Any Christians looking for the spiritual dimension to vegetarianism and animal rights, should read Every Creature a Word of God by Annika Spalde and Pelle Strindlund. (Vegetarian Advocates Press, Cleveland, OH, 2008)

“This book is beautifully written and carefully argued. It would be the perfect book for a Bible study or church study group,” writes Stephen Webb, professor of Religion and Philosophy at Wabash College, and author of Good Eating and On God and Dogs: A Christian Theology of Compassion for Animals.

The authors, Annika Spalde and Pelle Strindlund, are married antinuclear and animal activists involved in the Lutheran Church in Sweden. They write:

“This is a book about being Christian in a world shared with other beings. We do not live here alone. We have brothers and sisters. ‘The animals,’ wrote the American monk Thomas Merton (1915-68), ‘are the children of God.’ What does a spirituality that affirms God’s love for all creatures look like? That is the central question of this book.

“The animal rights movement is a recent development, but Christian concern for animals is not. We see it in the stories of medieval monks who helped hares and deer escape from hunters, and of desert hermits who offered water to thirsty donkeys. In these pages you will discover the rich history of animal-friendly living and theology within the Christian tradition…

“This book is a result of years of reflection on our relationship to other species… over coffee in church halls, fellow worshippers have challenged us: Haven’t we been given animals for our use? Didn’t Jesus eat meat? Such questions have forced us to ask if and how compassion for animals can be an embodiment of the Christian faith. The book is also an answer to the question we have received from many of our friends in the peace movement: How can you focus on animals when so many humans are suffering?”

  36. Kamala Harris is the new Fairy Godmother for the state of California and for the Liberal, Democratic party. No one has to be impressed with her, because, she is impressed enough and here we go with the nauseating, full of themselves, Liberals and their new queen (at least for a day). Sadly our country is in for some very annoying months ahead as these wondrous people begin to roll out their fight against conservatism and our God given, God protected President. People who live in CA and are Christian believing Conservatives should note that their state is becoming more and more under the gun, and make plans to get out of that once beautiful and grandly blessed state. It’s gonna take a huge and terrifying hit and suddenly be no more. You time is running out! The Brown family have finally finished California off!!

  37. I agree with you. I say shove a banana in her mouth put her in a cage and ship her off to Sierra Leone. She is a Monster in the Hilary catagory.
